FAQs

WHAT IS A LIFE COACH AND HOW IS IT DIFFERENT FROM THERAPY?

A life coach is a person who counsels and encourages an individual through life changes. Coaching helps you clarify the choices before you, empowers you to set goals, and guides you through creating an action plan to achieve those goals. Therapy is past and present-focused, to heal past trauma and move toward stability, whereas life coaching is present and future-focused, to move toward growth.

WHY DO YOU COMBINE MARTIAL ARTS AND LIFE COACHING?

Martial Arts has many mental and physical benefits such as patience, perseverance, integrity, discipline and focus, and strength, power and control. Combined with life coaching to help you identify your goals, hold you accountable, and encourage you throughout your journey, you’ll feel empowered to walk your path with self-trust as you gain a better understanding of your strengths and values.

WHAT ARE YOUR QUALIFICATIONS?

I’m a CTA (Coach Training Alliance) Certified Life Coach, and currently working toward my ICF (International Coaching Federation) certification. I’ve coached hundreds of people of all ages for the past 12 years.

I’m also a 2nd degree black belt, with a combined training of over 20 years in various martial arts styles, such as the Hawaiian Street art Kajukenbo. Kaju is a practical self defense art that combines the best techniques and principles from karate, judo/jiu jitsu, kenpo and boxing.

WHAT DOES A SESSION LOOK LIKE?

A typical coaching session is a weekly 70 minute discussion with a cohort of 7-9 people on Zoom. Each week you’ll receive a 15 minute video before your weekly session as a starting point for the session. Twice a month, we’ll meet in-person for self defense skills training and to build on the concepts we’ve learned in our weekly sessions.

Let’s start your journey to empowerment.
